Because they were using a USDA Direct loan with an incredible rate, the shutdown brought the entire process to a standstill. Thankfully, the listing agent and sellers were patient and understanding, and we were able to extend closing while we waited for the government to resume.
About a week after the government reopened, we were back on track—right as the seller’s oven gave out. Amid job stresses, moving logistics, and dealing with a mold-ridden rental, stress was high for everyone. But the seller replaced the oven in time, the loan cleared, and we made it to the closing table just before Thanksgiving!
The oven worked, the home was theirs, and after everything they’d been through, it truly felt like a blessing.
